COVID-19 Race Update

ED 1662 T Earth Day Run2To our wonderful Earth Day runners:

As you all know, COVID-19 has been a real shake up for everyone. Schools, activities and events across the country have been postponed or canceled. These are trying times.

CentraCare and the City of St. Cloud have made the hard decision to officially postpone the Earth Day Run until September 4-5. This decision was made to prioritize community health and wellness.

We recognize this decision is hard for everyone. After working countless hours to bring you the BEST Earth Day Run to date, it is extremely difficult to face this decision. However, our wonderful event sponsors have been supportive, and together we look forward to bringing you a stellar Earth Day Run event over the Labor Day weekend.

On Friday, Sept. 4, we’ll have our packet pick-up, presented by Central McGowan, hosted inside the River’s Edge Convention Center as part of the SCHEELS Health and Wellness Expo. That evening, you’ll enjoy the St. Cloud Subaru 5K, along with the Stearns Bank Stage Block Party with live music and great local beer!

Or, show off your summer training at the Cetera Half Marathon and relay on Saturday morning! Race events will wrap up at noon, offering plenty of time to further enjoy the extended weekend. All other logistics will remain the same with the only difference being our event date. We are excited to have the Earth Day Run weekend be a part of your Labor Day celebration. It will be a blast as usual!

In the meantime, we plan to roll out a virtual spring run to keep you motivated! We will email you some information about this soon!

The Next Steps for Runners

If you are currently registered for the Earth Day Run on April 24-25, you do not need to do anything. Your registration will automatically transfer over to September 4-5.

If September 4-5 doesn’t work for you, we are offering free transfers through August (the Earth Day Run has a no refund policy). Our new transfer policy allows you to switch races (for example, from a 5K to a half marathon) or to find someone to take your place for the race. We will take care of those requests at no charge.

Feel free to think about your options. You have five months to get a free transfer to another race, or to find a replacement runner. If you decide to go this route or are struggling to make these options work, please email racedirector@centracare.com.

Please note, we are receiving a high volume of emails at this time, so you may experience a delay in communication response. Rest assured, we will get to you, as we now have plenty of time to address various scenarios.

Support for Events

The CentraCare Earth Day Run stands strong with our racing community. Right now, many racing events are struggling to make tough decisions that impact their future, their capacity to operate and the lives of their racers. Now, more than ever, these races need your support.

Regional racing events in the Midwest support our culture of community health and wellness and help to raise funds for non-profit organizations in need, similar to the Earth Day Run’s commitment as a fundraiser for Feeling Good MN. These races bring about life in the best way, and we need them to stay around.

Events are expensive and time consuming to put on and a scenario such as this could be the reason why a race cannot continue its tradition. Please, be patient with the community of events, support them now more than ever, thank the sponsors who support these races and encourage others to remain positive with these difficult decisions. Thank you so much for running with us and being part of this community.

We look forward to seeing you in September for the 21st annual CentraCare Earth Day Run, presented by Bernick’s!
